My Top 3 Toy Storage Solutions

I searched high and low so you don’t have to! Very early into my son’s life I knew exactly where and how I wanted to store his toys. It took many internet searches and a well-timed recommendation from my sister to locate exactly what I was looking for. My search and patience paid off and I couldn’t be happier with our toy storage solutions! So happy that I want to spread the word!

All of these storage solutions are versatile. They will grow with your child and come in a variety of styles to match your décor and space.

1. Six-Cube Storage Organizer

The appearance and sturdiness of this cube unit make it my favorite. The dividers and shelves are thicker than others I’ve owned, making this piece more substantial than the many thinner options out there.

I use three of these paper rope baskets across the bottom of the unit. Within each is a single “grouping” of toys. For example, one basket is vehicles, another is blocks and balls, and the third is miscellaneous (dolls, stacking cups, toy phone, think small ‘stand-alone’ toys).

2. Three Drawer Storage Shelf on Wheels

This piece’s low profile makes for easy viewing and access to toys for young toddlers. The hidden wheels on the drawers keep the unit aesthetically pleasing and incredibly functional.

I like these drawers for heavier and bulkier toys. One drawer is dedicated to wooden building blocks, another to waffle blocks, and a third to play kitchen supplies. At some point I will rotate out toys and these drawers will hold wooden train supplies.

3. Small Canvas Bins

There are so many options to choose from in style, size, and material. You’re sure to find something that suits your taste and space. This product should be purchased and used wisely, else it become its own source of clutter.

I like to keep just a couple bins in each of our main play areas. When our son Murphy was just a baby, we kept his favorite toys in one of these bins so they were within easy reach. As he got a bit older, I used one to corral his “music” toys (rattles, mini radio, and a helicopter that Murphy for some reason insisted belonged there and not with the other vehicles). I recently repurposed it to hold a puzzle that is not easily put back together.

These three toy storage solutions are working wonderfully in my home. My son has been utilizing these systems to put away his toys since he started walking. He knows which toys belong in which bins and will even pick out any toys that don’t belong and move them to their proper bin. We refer to Murphy as our “self-cleaning baby”. Likely a combination of his upbringing, personality, and smart storage solutions. The toys have been well contained since day one.

If you’d like help implementing similar systems, including paring down and categorizing the toys, reach out to work with me!
